At City West Eye Specialists, Dr Sachdev aims to give you the best care and attention in a timely fashion. Your initial consultation with Dr Sachdev will be extensive and may require you to stay for up to an hour.

Please note that waiting times may be delayed due to the possibility of eye emergencies that require urgent treatment. We thank you for your understanding and co-operation.

What to Bring

Please bring the following to your appointment:

  • Referral letter from your Optometrist, General Practitioner or Specialist. (Without this, you will not be able to receive any rebate from Medicare.)
  • Your current spectacles (if you require them).
  • An up-to-date medication list summary of your medical history and allergies (if possible). If you cannot bring this, this can be obtained from your GP.
  • Medicare card
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs Card or Pensioners’ card
  • Private Health Fund card (if applicable eg. HCF, MBF, NIB)
  • Sunglasses to wear after your assessment following pupil dilation.

What to Expect

Once you have entered City West Eye Specialists, you will be greeted by our friendly Reception Staff. They will request for your personal details to be entered into our system. Following this, you will be seen by Dr Sachdev, who will perform a thorough assessment of your eyes.

You may also see an orthoptist (technician) if required. This initial assessment most likely will involve pupil dilation, which can blur your vision – do not drive immediately after. The effects of pupil dilation may last up to four hours.

Procedures/Surgery

If a procedure is required (laser or surgery), Dr Sachdev will discuss this with you during your first appointment. Certain procedures can be performed on the same day; however, other surgical procedures may require to be booked for a later date. Dr Sachdev and her staff will discuss this with you during your visit.

Payment

Payment is to be made on the day of your appointment. We accept Cash, Eftpos, Visa, Mastercard and Cheque. The cost will depend on several factors, and will be discussed with you by our staff. Discounts are available for patients with a Government Pension. No fee is charged for Department of Veterans’ Affairs patients.

Our staff will send your claim to Medicare on your behalf through our online system immediately following payment. We will provide you with a receipt of the exact amount, which will be sent to your bank account that is registered with Medicare. Please note that from 1 July 2016, Medicare is stopping cheques being sent to patients, therefore a bank account should be registered with Medicare. We can give you the necessary form to complete, if required.
